I create my life today
Take a deep breath. This concept is simple, but incredibly radical
for some people. I believe that your life shows up as you create it.
Try saying that to yourself - 'I create my life today'. Say it
several times. How does that feel? Do you feel your inner voice
saying 'No way! I didn't create this mess!' Or can you feel the
sense of power that comes from declaring that your life is your
creation?
Here's the power behind this - if I didn't create everything in my
life, the good and the not-working-for-me, then I don't really have
the power to do anything about it. I'm a victim of the forces of
others, the whims of fate, the machinations of evil, whatever. I
can't take credit for the good things, and not accept responsibility
for the rest of it. And as soon as I accept responsibility for all
of it, I have power - power to celebrate my victories, to power to
change anything I don't like into something I love.
Take another deep breath. Let me give you an example. I travel a
great deal, and stay in hotels frequently. I always book non-smoking
rooms, and I would call the day of arrival to confirm that my room is
non-smoking. One time when I did that, and was assured that my room
was non-smoking, I arrived late in the evening, I was informed that
only smoking rooms were still available. No amount of persuasion,
telling them that I had confirmed this earlier, etc., got me a
non-smoking room that night. So I spent the evening uncomfortable in
my room, waking up several times in the night, till finally I woke up
and said 'I created this'. Now I didn't know how I created that
situation - I couldn't point to an action and say 'If I hadn't done
this, this wouldn't have happened.' But I took responsibility for
where I was. And I fell asleep and slept soundly the rest of the
night. In the morning, and over the next few days (from the comfort
of my new non-smoking room) I reflected on why that had happened, why
I had created that situation.
Having taken responsibility for it gave me a sense of serenity and
power that I could do something about it. I realized that I had been
living in fear during my travels that my rooms would not be what I
wanted, thinking that I had to sweat and worry about whether they
would be non-smoking, and thinking that I would have to fight and
argue to get what I wanted. And that fear had kept the situation
alive for me, until it manifested. It wasn't that I had 'done'
anything to get that smoking room, but who I was 'being' was so
fearful, and so concerned that I wouldn't get what I wanted, that I
created that room as an opportunity to heal that fear. So I released
that fear. I know and affirm now that when I travel I am safe, and
my accommodations are perfect. And you know what? Since then, there
have only been perfect rooms.
Take another deep breath. You don't have to do this. You don't have
to accept this idea. Some things in your life may be more
challenging to claim then others. Start with a simple one.
For example, you might: Claim your responsibility in why someone has
shown up in your life in a demanding or unpleasant way. What belief
are you holding that would have someone like that show up for you?
How did you create this? At the very least, when you take your
attention off 'them' and focus it on yourself, I guarantee that your
anger will lessen, and you'll feel better. Can you look at 'them'
and see a teacher, and a valuable lesson? Then, what happens if you
affirm that you are surrounded by loving, pleasant people?
If this concept is new, and feels uncomfortable and unfamiliar to
you, try it on as a game - the 'Creating Reality' game. This game is
not about blame, or making yourself feel bad, it's about giving you a
sense of power. Take the good in your life, and claim it! Take
anything in your life, and claim it as yours - what happens? How do
you feel? Can you feel how powerful you truly are?
Claim your power, your responsibility, and your creative nature, and
have some fun!
